Kitten Season 2021 was like no other!
WAAG experienced an unusual surge for spay/neuter assistance for “domestic/tame” kittens. In one month alone, we received a call to rescue a litter of 3-4 week old kittens that were living in pretty dire conditions. A few days later, we rescued three kittens that had been left to fend for themselves in an abandoned car. None of these kittens were feral! All of them were neglected! And they all deserved so much better! Their future was pretty dim, if it were not for our network of WAAG Foster Care volunteers.
One of our WAAG Foster Care volunteers was caring for eight kittens at once! Two different litters . . . all under 8 weeks old! Another volunteer took on the three kittens from the abandoned car. All the kittens had fleas! All the kittens had worms! All the kittens needed proper care, attention and love. Our foster care volunteers provided all that and so much more! They not only stepped up to see that these kittens survived, but they were able to prepare them for a life with a family.
Which brings us to WAAG’s November Tails of Success story. . .
In November, all these kittens became of an age and weight that allowed us to take them for their first veterinary visit! All these little guys passed their health exam, each was spayed and/or neutered, then vaccinated and returned to foster care for the next step . . . ADOPTION! WAAG was able to find homes for two of them within a week or so! We reached out to our friends at SOS Lost Pet Rescue NW to help get the rest of them into homes they so deserved. They were able to get most of our kittens into fur-ever homes by Thanksgiving! Our last girl, “Artie”, is going home December 4th.
November was a TOTAL SUCCESS for these kittens, but unfortunately they were the exception and not the rule! Please, please, please, have your pets spayed/neutered! A population of unwanted pets without homes to go to is completely preventable!
If you need help getting your pet spayed/neutered, please visit our Spay & Neuter page and fill out WAAG’s Financial Aid Application. If you live in Wahkiakum County you qualify, simple as that. Our discount vouchers can be used at the vet of your choice.
