“Kitten Season” has been in full swing. We’ve caught, spayed and neutered dozens of cats in the last couple of months. Unfortunately, not before some of them had a litter of kittens! The good news for those we’ve caught, is that THAT was their LAST litter and their kittens will never have a first litter!
This past month we’ve found ourselves with a couple of very young kittens who were in desperate need of intervention. Through the acts of human compassion, Smokey and Snookie, found their way to WAAG.
Snookie was about 3 weeks old, found all alone in a yard with crows circling overhead and momma was no where to be found. Much too young to survive alone and on his own for very long, Snookie was turned over to WAAG for neonatal care. Three different caregivers took turns feeding, cleaning and nurturing this baby, as a momma cat would have. We are happy to report that Snookie thrived under his round the clock care. He is full of mischief and very playful! At 6 weeks old, no longer needing intensive care, he was returned to his original rescuer to live as part of their family.
Smokey was caught in one of our Trap-Neuter-Return outings. He was too young to be neutered at the time. Because he was so young, he was a suitable candidate to become someone’s pet. A Foster Volunteer for WAAG agreed to work on socializing him until he became old enough to be neutered. Smokey has since been neutered and vaccinated. He joined the Kitten Caboose Program at Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon and is on his way to becoming the love of someone’s life!
