Cathlamet Library Tails and Tales Summer Program features WAAG as their guest speaker!
Who is WAAG? What do you do?
How do I safely approach and animal I don’t know?
How can I help animals?
WAAG was happy to share the answers to these questions and more with local children at the Cathlamet Library Tails and Tales Summer Program. A summer break from school doesn’t mean these kids were taking a break from learning! When Carol Blix, Librarian at the Cathlamet Public Library, invited WAAG to be her guest speaker June 30th, we jumped at the opportunity to talk with kids, ages 5 to 15, about who WAAG is, what we do! We talked about what it means to “foster” an animal, identifying what a friendly dog might look like versus an unfriendly dog and how to safely approach a dog they do not know. They also learned about signs they may see indicating that an animal is in distress might need help, and how they can reach out to WAAG if they do. Many, having pets of their own, were eager to share with us stories about their own pets. Show and Tell was the highlight of the afternoon when Rebecca, WAAG’s President, introduced them to her dog Layla, and her pet tortoise Sheldon. Needless to say, WAAG speakers lost the popularity contest! Kids and animals . . . they are naturals together! It was a real treat to see the children’s enthusiasm about the animals in their community and their eagerness to be ambassadors for our four legged friends.
Thank You, Carol Blix, for letting WAAG spend an afternoon with the kids!
